Son de la Montaña (Rhythm of the Mountain)

Theatre Royal Hobart

Twenty-one musicians and dancers from the Lutruwita Art Orchestra (LAO) will take you on a musical journey from the Andes to Kunanyi (Mt Wellington) in Nipaluna (Hobart). Weaving together themes of belonging and home, while paying deep respect to the cultural legacy and contribution of the South and Central American diaspora in Lutruwita (Tasmania), Son de la Montaña is an evocation of the colour, vibrancy and rhythm of music birthed in the Andes.  Beginning deep in the Araucanía region of the Mapuche people of Southern Chile and journeying north through Colombia to Panama and Mexico, this project brings together the musical leadership of LAO members Lea Palacios, Pablo Cadenas and Kat Diaz Robayo with collaborators Franco Solis, Elias Solis, Ana Carolina Ceballos, Maira Rodriguez and Spike Mason.  Blending South American traditional music with jazz, Western classical, dance, folk, contemporary experimental sound-making and improvisation, the performance invites audiences into a vibrant musical landscape that spans cultures, traditions and contemporary music practice.
