Tarta Relena - WOMADelaide
Botanic Park / Tainmuntilla
Like a song from the siren, you'll be entranced by this Catalan folk duo's mesmerising vocal harmonies.
Blending the traditional with modern experimentation, Tarta Relena push the envelope of a cappella to create a unique musical experience. Barcelona-born Helena Ros and Marta Torrella met at school, taking choir lessons that opened their musical repertoire to include ancient and medieval sounds along with contemporary compositions. Adding Torella's later influence of jazz and flamenco, in 2016 the duo approached the project of Tarta Relena with a deep musical knowledge, creating an output that has won over critics and provided them with opportunities such as 2024's Tiny Desk Concert, a performance at Kraków's Unsound Festival, and a support slot for American singer Mitski.
