International Mountain Day 2026
Mt Buller
Celebrate International Mountain Day at Mt Buller, with three days of guided ecology walks, sunset drinks and shared meals in Victoria's spectacular alpine environment.
Discover the landscapes, native flora and wildlife that make Mt Buller special, while learning about local conservation efforts and the challenges facing fragile alpine ecosystems.
The weekend begins with a Friday evening walk to the Fireman's Hut for sunset drinks. Saturday features a village welcome and guided walk via Klingsborns and McLachlan's Ridge to the summit, followed by drinks on Koflers Deck and a barbecue dinner at Tirol Lodge, with a planned keynote talk by accomplished mountaineer and Jagged Globe founder Steve Bell.
On Sunday, enjoy breakfast at Spurs before a guided two-hour, four-kilometre walk along the Summit Nature Walk. Hear about the Mountain Pygmy Possum, explore the relationship between conservation and recreation, and gain insights into caring for an alpine resort.
The 2026 theme, Mountain pastoralists: Sustaining rangelands, knowledge and livelihoods, recognises the Indigenous and local knowledge that helps sustain mountain environments and communities.
