New England Garden Festival - Glen Innes
Glen Innes NSW
The New England Garden Festival features three spectacular properties in Glen Innes, NSW.
Built in the late eighteen hundreds for the first Glen Innes magistrate, the McIntosh family moved here in nineteen eighty six and revived the neglected grounds. Andrew cleared dying trees, built a new timber fence, and planted hundreds of trees for windbreaks. The evolving garden now features a drystone wall, tennis court, and garden sheds. Food and beverages will be supplied on-site by the Little Sunshine Cafe.
Coral and her late husband Peter moved to this eighteen eighties home fifftey years ago, clearing a garden overwhelmed by weeds. Inspired by five majestic English elms, Coral focused on planting trees. Navigating the heavy black basalt soil and frosty winters, she found exotics like poplar, beech, liquidambar, birch, maple, and cypress thrived best. Long mounds were built in lower sections to elevate root systems and improve drainage.
