Smile: The Story of Charlie Chaplin - Deepwater
Deepwater School of Arts
Smile is the story of the life of Charlie Chaplin. An acclaimed, award-winning one-man comedy that follows Chaplin's life from his poverty stricken childhood, to his rise to meteoric fame; and from his political controversy in America to his eventual exile in Switzerland. Using mime, projected story cards, and clown-style audience participation, the show begins in the silent era, but then when talkies are invented and Chaplin eventually speaks, dialogue is introduced as the rest of Chaplin's life is played out.
The show is light and playful but not without serious undertones, particularly in Chaplin's 1940 film The Great Dictator, which is depicted in the show. A story with a laugh, and maybe a tear.
