Moving Semangat Forward: The Semangat Body

Gorman Arts Centre

A two-hour movement workshop exploring Semangat as a living force of memory, endurance, resistance, and renewal. Through breath, rhythm, repetition, and sensory movement, participants listen to the body and discover how it responds to struggle, change, nature, and the world around you. Drawing from Aida Redza's Penjaga (guardian) practice, participants explore the shifting states of the Pencerita (storyteller), Pendekar (warrior), and Pengubat (healer). Through simple movement scores, explore how stories, memories, and experiences can move through the body and become your own movement language. No dance experience is required. Come as you are, listen to your body, and discover what it remembers, resists, releases—and how it moves forward.
