Polish paper chandelier workshop with Beci Orpin

Canberra Museum + Gallery

Create a colourful hanging ornament to treasure at the Polish paper chandelier workshop with Beci Orpin at the Canberra Museum and Gallery. Participants join Melbourne artist, designer and author Beci Orpin to explore pajaki, traditional Polish decorations made from straw, paper and thread. Associated with happiness, prosperity and celebration, these intricate ornaments have long brought colour and beauty into homes. With guidance from Beci, participants learn the fundamentals of construction and add decorative details to make their piece personal. Designs can be kept simple or embellished with more intricate elements. Prepared materials and templates provide a starting point, with plenty of room for individual expression. The workshop offers an absorbing afternoon of hands-on creativity to enjoy with friends or independently. Participants leave with new skills, the satisfaction of making something themselves and a distinctive ornament to display at home or give as a gift. Known for her playful use of colour and shape, Beci has collaborated with The Australian Ballet and led workshops for the National Gallery of Victoria. She is also the creator of Bunny Dearest, featured in the gallery's Hop In exhibition. All materials are supplied. No previous experience is required. Suitable for adults and young people aged fifteen and over. Some activities involve fine and detailed handwork.
