SHSO presents: Piano and Passion

Bowral Memorial Hall

The Southern Highlands Symphony Orchestra will close its 2026 season by bringing together some of the world's best-loved music and compositions created here in the Highlands. At the heart of the program is Tchaikovsky's magnificent Piano Concerto No. 1, performed by Shoalhaven-based pianist Luke Bowen, a familiar soloist to audiences across the Southern Highlands and Illawarra. They'll also celebrate music from the community. Young Southern Highlands composer Oscar Dunn-Luck, winner of SHSO's most recent composition competition, returns to the orchestra's program with his Waltz Fantasia. He is joined on the program by John Corley, a well-known local musician, composer and orchestra member, whose Christmas Crackers will bring a festive flourish to SHSO's final concerts of the year. Also, music to inspire drama, romance and joy: Verdi's stirring Overture to Nabucco, Grieg's jubilant Wedding Day at Troldhaugen, the exuberant rhythms of Dvořák's Slavonic Dance No. 8 and John Williams' soaring theme from Jurassic Park. It's a fitting finale to SHSO's 2026 season: fine classical music performed live, a celebration of local talent, and early-career creatives sharing the stage with some of the world's most loved composers. Everyone is welcome. Children 15 and under are free. Discounts for students and concession card holders.
