McCrae by Lanternlight

McCrae Homestead

When darkness falls, McCrae Homestead takes on a very different atmosphere. Step inside by lanternlight and journey through the cottage as tales of superstitions, curious traditions and long-held beliefs unfold. Discover what Victorians feared, what brought them luck, and how they made sense of a world filled with uncertainty. Some stories are dark, others delightfully unusual, but all reveal a fascinating side of nineteenth-century life rarely explored during the day. This immersive after-dark experience includes interactive moments throughout the tour, with visitors invited to carry lanterns, take part in traditional protective rituals and explore rarely discussed aspects of nineteenth-century home life. Following the tour, relax in the Burrell Twycross Gallery with tea, coffee and shortbread while reflecting on the stories you've heard. Guests will also receive a small keepsake herb bundle inspired by traditional beliefs and protective customs of the era.
