Visual Journalling for Library Lovers

National Library of Australia

Have you ever wanted to record a visit to the National Library of Australia in a more personal way? In this relaxed, hands-on workshop, you'll discover how to combine simple sketches, handwritten notes and colour to create your own visual journal. Working with a selection of fascinating Library items, you'll learn that visual journaling is less about artistic skill and more about curiosity, observation and enjoying the process of looking closely. No drawing experience is necessary. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced sketchers looking for a fresh approach to recording their experiences. By the end of the session, you'll leave with your own handmade visual journal and a new way of seeing the Library. Bobby Graham is an artist, illustrator, author and publisher based in Canberra. After a career at the National Library of Australia, the Australian National University and the Australian Parliamentary Library, she now devotes her time to drawing, visual storytelling and publishing through her Slow Art practice. Bobby's work celebrates everyday life with sketchbooks and visual journals, combining drawing, handwriting and observation to tell stories about the places she visits and the people she meets. She teaches visual journaling, urban sketching and digital drawing, encouraging people of all abilities to slow down, look closely and discover the pleasure of recording the world around them.
