Wheelwrighting Workshop

Queensland Museum Cobb+Co

Join wheelwright Kerry Riehl for this immersive five-day wheelwrighting workshop, where you'll build a complete twelve-spoke wagon wheel using traditional tools and techniques. Working from a hand-crafted kit, you'll also make one of each essential component — a spoke, felloe, and hub — gaining a true appreciation for this historic trade. By the end of the workshop, you'll take home your own expertly assembled wheel. Meet your tutor Wheelwright Kerry Riehl is a joiner by trade. He has been making and repairing wooden wheels for over 30 years, starting with his grandparents' old carts and drays. All our Hands-on Workshops have a limited number of participants to ensure you receive all the assistance and direction you require. Spectators are welcome at all workshops.
