Opal Evolution 2027 National Opal Symposium Welcome Celebration
Historic Cottages
Join them in Andamooka for a spectacular evening of light, colour, storytelling and community as Opal Evolution welcomes delegates and visitors to the National Opal Symposium 2027.
Bringing together opal miners, geologists, researchers, gemmologists, jewellers, industry representatives, enthusiasts and the local community, this special evening celebrates Australia's remarkable opal heritage and the people who bring it to life.
Watch Andamooka's ancient past come alive through a glowing parade of illuminated dinosaur and marine-creature puppets. Under ultraviolet light, these colourful creatures represent the remarkable opalised fossils found beneath Andamooka, remnants of animals that lived here millions of years ago when inland Australia was covered by the ancient Eromanga Sea.
As darkness falls, the hillside overlooking Opal Creek Boulevard will transform into an outdoor gallery. Spectacular projections of opal, fossils, geological formations and local stories will illuminate the outback landscape, creating an immersive celebration of art, science and deep time.
The evening will also provide an opportunity for Symposium delegates to meet local miners, explore the township, reconnect with colleagues and experience the hospitality of the Andamooka community ahead of the two-day Symposium program in Andamooka and Roxby Downs on 16–17 June.
