Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival

Home Hill Showgrounds

The Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival powered by Pacific Blue is the Burdekin's signature celebration of its people, produce and culture. Set in the heart of Australia's Sugar Cane Capital, the festival brings locals and visitors together to experience the traditions, flavours and spirit that make the Burdekin truly unforgettable. The festival unfolds across two signature events. Friday night comes alive with the Burdekin Cultural Fair featuring First Fire, presented by Parkside, celebrating the region's rich multicultural heritage through international cuisines, interactive activities and captivating cultural performances. As night falls, witness one of the region's most iconic traditions, the lighting of the First Fire of the sugar cane crushing season. Experience the glow of the flames, the crackling sound of burning cane and the sweet aroma that signals the start of another harvest season. On Saturday, the Australian Hand Cane Cutting Championships, presented by CANEGROWERS Burdekin, takes centre stage. Step into a burnt cane paddock and witness competitors battle for the title of Australian Hand Cane Cutting Champion in a remarkable display of strength, endurance and skill. Beyond the competition, visitors can enjoy live music, great food, market stalls, vintage machinery displays, a fully stocked bar and the Canefield Cookoff. With cultural experiences, family-friendly entertainment, agricultural heritage and country hospitality, Sweet Days Hot Nights offers an unforgettable weekend celebrating the very best of the Burdekin.
