Visit Field of Mars Cemetery to explore its rich history and serene environment.
Opening in 1890, Field of Mars Cemetery is considered to be an important cemetery for the beautiful suburb of Ryde. Originally proclaimed on 3 December 1887, the name 'Field of Mars' was given by Governor Phillip when he granted land to eight first fleet marines in 1792. The area is now known as Ermington and Melrose Park.
Today, the cemetery is 17 hectares, with more than half of the area converted into the Field of Mars Flora and Fauna Reserve....
