Nestled under the Wollongong escarpment at Mt Pleasant are 13 hectares of gardens and Illawarra rainforest. You can enjoy peace and quiet amongst colourful rhododendrons, vireyas, azaleas, magnolias and other exotic and native companion plants. Spring is the peak flowering season, however seasonal variations, clever planting choices, the lake and rolling lawns mean that there is always something to see. The gardens are also a haven for wildlife; a diverse range of birds, frogs, water dragons and echidnas are just a few of the regular visitors. There are picnic facilities and a series of brick and grass paths meandering around the lake and up the slopes to the Rainforest Gardens. Hike along steeper bush tracks through the endangered Illawarra escarpment rainforest. Visit the May Barrie sculpture near large red cedars and a huge Fig. An entry payment of $5 per adult allows the volunteers to continue to nurture, maintain and develop the gardens. Cash boxes are located in the car park or payments made by card or bank transfers are an option. The gardens are open Tuesdays, weekends and all public holidays from 10 am to 5 pm. At other times by appointment only. The Gardens are the perfect outdoor setting for a truly memorable wedding ceremony. Choose a lily-filled lakeside setting; a glade of Spring blooms; or a dramatic sandstone stairway....

Entry Cost

The gardens are not funded by the government or local council. They rely on your AUD5-dollar entry fee to help develop and nurture these gorgeous spaces. There are cash boxes located in the car park area and the option for bank transfers or credit payments. Further donations are always welcome.
