4RSU is a World War II Heritage site located 100km south of Darwin alongside the Stuart Highway, just 10km North of Adelaide River township. The tour begins from the gate way of the property at the southern end of Pell wartime Airstrip. The Pell airstrip is a significant and interesting landmark of 16 hectares, named after Major Floyd Pell who was killed when the Japanese strafed Darwin Airport on February 19, 1942. Proceed along the taxi way that was used to bring aircraft within the camp and place them along revetments for repair and for servicing. The revetments branch out from the engineered road system which had parallel double drains and deep cross waterways to cope with the Wet season rain. The tour proceeds to unique sites across the property which illustrate the well developed workshop stations and then the camp which housed over 500 men. The tour is well interpreted from a knowledge of the book written about this camp and from the tour operator's personal contact with service men who served here....
