The Bundaberg War Memorial occupies pole position in Bourbong Street, situated within a roundabout opposite the post office. A memorial pavilion honouring the nurses of Bundaberg who served in both world wars is located one kilometre to the north near the hospital. Cross the Burnett River to Bert Hinkler House in the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens and discover more about this pioneer aviator who began his flying career with the Royal Navy Air Service during World War One. Historic Fairymead House and sugar museum is also on site, as are the Australian Sugarcane Railway, the Bundaberg railway museum and the historical society. Stay on the north bank of the river and take the Rosedale Road, which follows the railway, towards the rail town of Miriam Vale. The town's war memorial is near the station, opposite the hotel and the Heritage-listed fig tree. Drive on north to Gladstone. Its war memorial is a relatively new one, located in Central Park in Goondoon Street. Enjoy a meal at the Port Curtis Sailing Club overlooking Auckland inlet. It was built by local returned servicemen and sailing enthusiasts after World War Two, and is the destination for the annual Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race.

Head north to Mount Morgan and visit the restored School of Arts Building on Morgan Street. It was used for recruitment meetings during World War One and was occupied by American troops during World War Two. Mount Morgan's Coronation Lamp was erected in Morgan Street in 1902 commemorating the coronation of King Edward VII, as well as the soldiers who served in the Boer War. It was the site of recruitment campaigns, political campaigns and union meetings for mine workers. Its role as a war memorial was continued after World War One. The lamp was relocated to ANZAC Park at the junction of West and Morgan Streets after World War Two. Then head north to Rockhampton and its Botanic Gardens where Queensland's most expensive war memorial is located before turning east to the beachside town of Yeppoon. Visit its memorial in a park in the town centre. The avenue of hoop pines along the Esplanade also commemorates local service personnel. For an extra special finishing point of this Memorial Journey, continue to Emu Park just another 20 minutes up the road to view the new Anzac Memorial and walkway.
