Alexandra is a neat country town located in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, 130 kilometres north east of Melbourne. Lake Eildon National Park, the snow fields of Mt Buller and Lake Mountain, and the Upper Goulburn River are all only a short drive from Alexandra. Alexandra is home to a small number of very popular events that are gaining a national reputation. Visitors are invited to obtain a copy of the seasonal publication Murrindindi Guide which features maps and a calendar of events. Copies are available free of charge from the Information Centre. Enjoy natural attractions and wildlife as you explore the history and all Alexandra has to offer. Alexandra's history dates back to 1824 when it was discovered by Hume and Hovell. Alexandra was originally known as a 'Redgate', a gold mining town and slowly moved into the timber and agricultural areas over time. Today, Alexandra relies heavily on tourism to sustain its economy. No matter what season you visit, Alexandra and surrounds will provide you with an experience to remember and cherish. Your experience can commence by popping into the Alexandra Information Centre then visiting Alexandra's unique attractions....
