The Merimbula Old School Museum operates in a stone building that was originally constructed for use as a school and residence. It is a rare example of this type of complex under the one roof remaining in public ownership in NSW. The land was donated by Sir William Manning and the school opened in 1873 in temporary premises. When the building was completed in 1875 the enrolment was 39 children. The school was relocated in 1946, the residence was restored and rented and the schoolroom was used for community activities before the building fell into disrepair. In 1971 the Merimbula-Imlay Historical Society was given permissive occupancy of the building and after undertaking extensive restoration work, began operating the museum in 1973. The structure is listed on the register of the National Trust of Australia. It is open on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1.30 to 4 pm or by appointment and is highly recommended for those keen on the history of the area....
